LODD: Ky. fire chief dies of cardiac arrest

His son, a captain, was a passenger in the vehicle when the chief fell ill; he took the wheel and rushed him to the hospital

ALLEN, Ky. — A fire chief died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack while responding to a call on March 4.

U.S. Fire Administration reported that Fire Chief Billy Jarvis, 54, with the Allen (Ky.) Fire Department, had trouble breathing while responding to a downed power line call.

His son, a captain with the department who was a passenger in the vehicle, took over as driver and rushed him to the hospital.

Upon arrival, he went into cardiac arrested. He was revived and transferred to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injury.

He was a 35-year fire service veteran.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
