STANLEY, Wis. — When his girlfriend got into a traffic accident early Sunday morning, Joshua D. Vieras decided to go to where the crash happened in Stanley.

It turned out to be the wrong decision. Stanley Police said Vieras of 503 McKenzie St. in Stanley hit Stanley Fire Chief Ron Zais in the chest, spit in the face and mouth of Police Officer Tyler Lewien and eventually kicked Lewien’s knee.

Vieras, 22, wound up being arrested for two felony charges of battery to a law enforcement officer, one felony charge of battery to a firefighter and misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. It will be up to the Chippewa County District Attorney’s office if any criminal charges will be brought against Vieras.
