OAKLAND, Calif. — Oakland Fire Chief Teresa Deloach Reed is on leave for the second time this year.
Chief Reed was on leave for the majority of January to help care for a family member, officials told the East Bay Times. Her absence came after rumors of poor leadership to inspect the Ghost Ship warehouse that killed 36 people Dec. 2, 2016.
Although she returned to work last week, she took an unexplained leave Friday.
“The city does not comment on the leave status of employees,” city spokesperson Erica Derryck told the publication.
When asked last month if she intends to remain as chief past her vesting date, Chief Reed declined to answer and said, “that’s an inappropriate question.”
