WELLSBURG, W.Va. — The Wellsburg Fire Department chief has been charged with falsifying accounts established for proceeds from fundraisers for the volunteer company, the Intelligencer reported earlier this month.

West Virginia State Police said Scott Kins, 44, told them he had been responsible for more than 20 drawings and bingos since he took on the role of chief in August 2021.

Some proceeds were collected through an app and that money was put into a fund in his name.

The criminal complaint also states that Kins told police $500 was used to build a handicap ramp at his home.
