NEW FLORENCE, Pa. — The Fairfield Township Volunteer Fire Company is planning to rebuild its fire hall that was extensively damaged during a fire Oct. 3.
There is no doubt in anybody’s mind about rebuilding, said Fairfield fire Chief Kevin Stiffler. He said the community and the firefighters want that to happen.
The fire started in the kitchen of the fire hall as caterers were preparing a meal for a wedding.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated by a state police fire marshal, Stiffler said.
The amount of damage sustained is still being determined.
Firefighters were able to save their gear and trucks.
Stiffler said the equipment is being stored at Four Acres Stables, located on Mountain View Road, about one mile from the fire hall.
But the structure is not heated, so the fire company soon will erect a temporary heated building on its property so that the water tanks on the trucks don’t freeze.
Stiffler said numerous fire companies have offered to help.
A Gun and Cash Bash scheduled for Oct. 24 has been moved to the Waterford Volunteer Fire Company, he said. The fire company will hold its annual Turkey Raffle Nov. 7 at the Seward Volunteer Fire Company.
Community members wishing to help the fire company to rebuild can send donations to the fire company at 5414 Route 711, New Florence, Pa. 15944.
