COLUMBUS, Ohio — A fire station crew was forced to tough it out in cold temperatures over the weekend when their heating system broke down.
NBC4 reported that the Columbus Fire Department station 16 firefighters had to use space heaters in the bathrooms, dorms, kitchen and fire truck bays to keep warm all weekend after the boiler broke.
“We think sometime Friday night into early Saturday morning, the boiler at station 16, Weber and McGuffey broke down,” Battalion Chief Steve Martin said. “We’ve purchased space heaters.”
Battalion Chief Chris Blair said a boiler tech investigated the shut-down pump and found it had a leak and needed to be repaired, but returned to find that it had sustained further damage.
“I got a phone call on Saturday that the assistant chief of emergency services was going to split up the crews at this station and send them to a nearby fire station,” Chief Martin said.
Through the cold temperatures, firefighters were not slowed down and responded to several calls.
