ARCHER CITY, Texas —District Attorney Jack McGaughey confirmed Friday former Archer City volunteer Fire Chief Scott Burkett is the target of an investigation into unauthorized use of department funds.
McGaughey said Burkett is no longer serving as chief.
He declined to go into details of the investigation, saying investigators were still collecting information, such as how much money was improperly used.
Tuesday, the Times Record News received an email from the office of Archer City Manager George Huffman indicating the Archer City VFD was “cooperating fully in the investigation.”
“The Archer City Volunteer Fire Department has confirmed that there will be an investigation by the District Attorney’s office regarding the unauthorized use of Fire Department funds,” the email stated.
McGaughey also previously said the investigation is focused solely on Burkett and is not department wide.
Burket t is former chief of the Archer City Volunteer Fire Department.
