Pa. firefighters called ‘angels’ for finishing woman’s roof

The fire chief said he was not surprised by his firefighters’ generous actions

LAKE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Firefighters made a world of difference for a woman after taking over an unfinished roof construction.

Diane Cron, who runs a bed-and-breakfast, called firefighters “angels” after they showed up last week to finish a roof job that a contractor skipped out on, reported FOX8. A Hamlin Fire and Rescue firefighter noticed the roof had been undone for nearly a year.

“It was like angels came and saved me,” Cron said. “They were here. They were here to help me.”

Hamlin Fire Chief Gene Koch said he was not surprised by his firefighters’ generous actions.

“I’m not surprised by it, just ecstatic with joy,” Chief Koch said. “People still care. I’d like to see more people out there helping people. Just because these guys are part of a fire company, doesn’t limit the actions that can be done.”

Cron said had it not been for the firefighters stepping in, she would not have been able to remain inside the house for much longer.

“If it wasn’t for the Hamlin Ambulance Fire and Rescue, I would be in the hospital because they were ready to take me away because my nerves were out of control,” Cron said.
