DARLINGTON, S.C. — A former S.C. fire chief used inmates to wash his car and clean oysters, agents said.
James Stone, 71, who resigned as chief of the Darlington Fire Department earlier this year, was arrested Friday and charged with misconduct in office and using his office for personal gain.
Stone used the inmate labor to clean up around his home, wash his personal car and clean oysters from January 2009 until June this year, according to WSPA-TV.
An arrest warrant says Stone admitted to using the inmate labor for his own personal gain, the report said.
