SOUTH MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Firefighters hurt in 2-alarm blaze

Three Memphis firefighters received minor injures while battling a two-alarm fire that tore through a large commercial warehouse in South Memphis Tuesday night.

Firefighters responding to 1054 Kansas St. about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday found flames pouring from the warehouse, operated by Memphis-based Recycle Solutions.

Three firefighters were taken to local hospitals in noncritical condition for chest pains and heat exhaustion and one had a broken ankle, Fire Department spokesman Wayne Cooke said. No other injuries were reported.

The cause and origin of the fire and the extent of the damage are not known, Cooke said Wednesday. Fire Department officials said the blaze nearly became a three-alarm fire, which is a rarity. Altogether, 131 emergency response personnel responded to the fire with 54 pieces of fire, rescue and medical equipment.
