PETALUMA, Calif. — A 100-square-foot section of ceiling in Petaluma’s aging downtown fire station came crashing down onto an ambulance Wednesday in an incident that city officials said spotlights the need to upgrade or replace Petaluma’s crumbing facilities.
No one was hurt during the 4 p.m. incident, though the ambulance had minor damage and a backup ambulance was used on a call for service, said Dave Kahn, a battalion chief. A paramedic heading out on the call had just opened the bay doors, which is thought to have jarred the panel loose.
Firefighters cordoned off the apparatus bay as safety inspectors tested for the presence of asbestos contamination on Thursday, he said.
