GALENA, Ill. — A man was killed and six others were injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Illinois 84 North near Galena, according to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
All names, hometowns and the extent of injuries for the six survivors were withheld pending notification of their families.
Authorities said the accident happened at 6:39 p.m. when a vehicle, traveling south on Illinois 84 North, entered the intersection with U.S. 20 and failed to yield to an oncoming vehicle, which was westbound on U.S. 20.
The vehicle traveling south was occupied by an adult male driver, an adult female and two juveniles.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Galena Ambulance service took the female and two juveniles to Midwest Medical Center, and the juveniles were later transferred by helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital.
The vehicle traveling west was occupied by two adult males and one adult female.
Paramount Ambulance Service took the adult male driver to The Finley Hospital.
The Galena Ambulance Service took the other male and female to Midwest Medical Center.
The crash remains under investigation.
