MIAMI — A firefighter was found dead Wednesday after not showing up for work.
According to Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Ignatius Carroll, the body of the still unidentified firefighter, was found off the Rickenbacker Causeway on Hobie Beach.
The firefighter was scheduled to work and was found wearing his uniform, CBS Miami reported.
Officials responded to the scene after reports a person had been shot, according to the report.
“Right now we are not sure how and why this happened,” Capt. Carroll said. “We do know it is a very sad moment for the city of Miami fire department and the members of the department grief counselors will be made available to help the firefighters deal with this unfortunate tragedy.”
Police are still investigating how and why this happened.
