LAKE VIEW, Ill. — City building inspectors were investigating a Lake View neighborhood porch collapse that injured several people — one seriously — early Sunday morning.
About 10 people were on the wooden second-floor porch on the back of the 2-story building in the 3700 block of North Ashland when it dropped onto the first-floor porch at 1:23 a.m., Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
Four people were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and four were treated at the scene, he said.
“There’s an extensive porch system including a deck that went above the roof of the building,” he said. “The porch was heavy. Something was not quite right with the way it was attached to the wall.”
The owner of the building owner would not comment Sunday.
