Texas firefighters aid ill plane passenger

The firefighters, along with a doctor who was also a passenger, helped a woman who was complaining of severe pain due to a recent surgery

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A group of Corpus Christi firefighters on a flight home from Florida helped a passenger who was in severe pain, city officials said.

Capt. Daniel Valdez, Carl Chism, Mikal Stuive and Gabriel Gonzales were returning to Corpus Christi on Nov. 22 after training when the pilot of the plane requested emergency help from any medical personnel on board, according to a city news release.

The firefighters, along with a doctor who was also a passenger on the flight, helped a woman who was complaining of severe pain due to a recent surgery. The woman had dizziness and nausea, the release states.

After the group’s evaluation the woman was given medications to manage the nausea and pain and was given IV fluids for hydration. The group of firefighters monitored the woman until the plane landed in Houston and was transferred to Houston Fire Department emergency personnel, the release states.
