The SAFER application period closed Friday, Aug. 31 at 5 pm Eastern Time. Applications must be received no later than at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. No exceptions will be made for submissions after 5 pm Eastern Time.

Reminder: SAFER grants are competitive. Applications are evaluated based on the merits of the application relative to the established SAFER Grant funding priorities. The answers to activity-specific questions and the data in the Department Characteristics section of the application make up the initial score. That initial score is combined with the score the application receives at the peer review evaluation, with each score representing 50 percent of the total application score.
SAFER Help Desk. SAFER Help Desk Specialists can answer questions by telephone (toll-free at 1-866-274-0960) or by e-mail (firegrants@fema.dhs.gov.) The Help Desk hours of operation during the application period are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time, but the hours may be extended based on volume and demand.
After you submit: Once your application has been submitted successfully and received, you will receive a confirmation e-mail message in the “Mail Center” of the e-Grant system. Applicants should print and keep on file a copy of the submitted application and the confirmation e-mail.
SAM.gov Extends Expiration Deadline 30 Days
GSA recently announced that the expiration date for the System for Award Management (SAM registrants that was set to expire in September of 2013 will be extended an additional thirty (30) days in order to facilitate doing business with the Federal government at the end of the fiscal year.
SAM registrants can locate their new expiration date on the SAM website at SAM.gov. Once logged in, locate your entity‘s registration record [link to “What’s my Registration Status”] and view the expiration date. In the future, you will receive standard e-mail reminders to update your record based on this new expiration date. Those email notifications will come from notifications@sam.gov.
It is a good idea to begin the renewal process well in advance of any contract, grant, or payment deadlines. In an effort to begin the renewal process, you may submit your update on your SAM account. Submitting your update will not impact your Active registration or current opportunities. Please note: It can take up to ten days after you submit your update in SAM for the new information to go Active and replace your old information. For further assistance updating your registration in SAM, please reference the Quick Start Guides, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS), and other training material both on the Help tab of SAM.gov.
