DHS announces round 1 of Fire Station Construction Grants

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today the first round of Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 Fire Station Construction Grants, awarding 96 grants totaling $165 million to fire departments within the United States.

The primary goal of the Fire Station Construction Grants (SCG) is to create or save jobs in recession-hit areas and achieve other purposes stated in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and improve firefighter safety and response capabilities throught construction, renovation or modification of fire stations. The SCG program was open to non-federal fire departments and state and local governments that fund or operate fire departments.
