CONCORD, NH — A Saturday afternoon fire in a South State Street apartment was set by a child, fire officials determined.

There were no injuries, and damage was estimated at $10,000, according to Concord Fire Chief Dan Andrus.

Firefighters were called to the three-story apartment house at 46 S. State St. at 2:54 p.m. and arrived within two minutes to see heavy smoke coming from a bedroom window on the top floor. Firefighters removed nearby residents, and the damage was contained to one unit of the house, Andrus said.

The fire’s growth was slowed by a building sprinkler system, and the fire was under control by 3:14 p.m.

Responders included 17 firefighters on three engines, an elevated tower, two ambulances and a command vehicle.

The three occupants of the apartment were relocated to a local hotel. The child who set the fire will receive fire-setter intervention services from the fire department.
