MARION, Ind. — One local firefighter and a Marion resident put their creativity to the test while making a rap video to teach kids about fire safety.
Matt Elkins, 22, Marion, a student at Ball State University, came up with the idea to make a fire safety rap video. He said he did it for two reasons: to help the community learn fire safety, and for a school assignment.
“I wanted to do something to help the kids in the community learn about fire safety because it is important,” Elkins said.
Elkins edited the video, wrote the rap lyrics and directed the video. His friend Weston Shanks, 21, Marion, also a student at BSU who is a volunteer firefighter for the Mill Township Volunteer Fire Department, acted in the video.
