3M unveils new transfer films at FDIC for station wear

Products offer stitchless bonding for a more efficient application process

3M's latest flame resistant reflective material options were unveiled at FDIC in Indianapolis.

The Minn.-based company chose the annual conference to launch the Scotchlite Reflective Material – 8735 Silver Flame Resistant Transfer Film and Scotchlite Reflective Material – 9740 Industrial Wash Flame Resistant Silver Transfer Film.

Both NFPA 70E compliant and durable enough to sustain many washes, the new offerings are well suited to be used in station wear for firefighters according to Alyson Phillips, New Product Marketing Manager at 3M.

Being a film, the products offer stitchless bonding for "a more efficient application process and increased design options for wearers."

Phillips said the products were customer-driven, with feedback from customers indicating the desire for a lighter weight alternative to traditional sewn-on materials.

In addition, as the film is transferred rather than sewn onto the material, it reduces the amount of puckering, making it more comfortable for the wearer, according to Phillips.

She added that the feedback received from visitors at FDIC — which attracted a record 28,000 visitors this year — had been positive.
