The “Fastest Two Minutes in Sports” - Just got Faster!

This year Globe FootGear teamed up with the Firefighter Combat Challenge and traveled across the country introducing teams of fi refi ghters to the new Globe FootGear Boots. The success was obvious from the start and the popularity of Footgear grew as the season rolled on. With 20 events in over 17 states and reaching over 5 thousand competitors,Globe FootGear was a hit! Globe supplied 75 pair of the 14” Structural Pull-Ons and 12” Structural Zip-Ups to travel with the competition. Competitors were able to borrow the boots for competition and many spectators came to see what the “buzz” was about in the Globe FootGear tent. What better place in need of athletic footwear for firefighters than an obstacle course for firefighters? For those not familiar with the FCC, here is a brief synopsis of the course.

The course includes five separate events done back to back, and the competitor with the fastest time wins. The competitor must first carry a 40- pound pack of hose to the top of a three story tower. Upon reaching the top, he/she then hoists a 42-pound donut roll of hose located back at the bottom of the tower all the way to the top by pulling on a rope attached to the donut. After finishing the hoist, the competitor runs back down the tower, making sure not to skip any stairs and simulates a “forcible entry situation” by hammering a 160-pound horizontal steel beam for a distance of 5 feet. The competitor must then carry a charged hose 75 feet and then knock down a collapsible target with the stream of water. The course ends with the competitor dragging a 175 pound mannequin a distance of 100 feet! By the way, all of this must be done in full turn-out gear, helmet, boots, gloves, and SCBA.

Many competitors travel to multiple events in hope to amass enough points to become the Grand National Champion in their respective division. Points are collected at each event and correlate to their time. This year the World Firefi ghter Combat Challenge was in Las Vegas and the event lasted for fi ve days with over 500 competitors from around the world. The first three days of competition are preliminary runs where the competitors try to have a low enough time to compete in the final two days.

The ceremony for the Grand National Champions was held on the second night of competitions in Vegas and was sponsored by Globe FootGear. The reception was a huge success, with over 300+ people in attendance and close to 250 entries. The Grand National Champions were awarded a free pair of 14” Structural boots to wear for work or competition.

The winner of the team championship was Fort Gordon, GA who scored a time of 1 minute 18 seconds. This breaks the streak of 3-time winners, Team Travis of Canada. The individual champion also came from Fort Gordon -Brandon Cunningham with a time of 1 minute 24 seconds.
Globe would like to thank all those who helped make this a very successful first year at the Firefighter Combat Challenge, and look forward to sponsoring the event for years to come.
