WASHINGTON — The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International has been named a co-recipient of the Congressional Fire Services Institute’s 2006 Organization of the Year Award. The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) is also receiving the award. APCO International and IAFC are receiving the awards for their work to secure additional broadcast spectrum for first responders.
“Long before the tragic events of September 11th and long before subsequent reports and commissions raised awareness to the failures in public safety communications, your two organizations made radio interoperability a top priority,” the letter from CFSI Executive Director Bill Webb said. “You have been our chief spokespersons and watchdogs on Capitol Hill …"
The award presentation will be made tonight at the 18th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner at the Hilton Washington. “APCO International is honored to be receiving this award along with the IAFC,” APCO International President Wanda McCarley said. “We are pleased to be able to work with such prestigious groups within the fire services industry like IAFC and CFSI and look forward to our continued work together to benefit the public’s safety.”
