Firecom’s New Digital Intercom Provides Enhanced Interoperability for Emergency Responders

Updated Systems Designed to Retrofit Apparatus and Accommodate Multiple Radios, Improving Communication Performance and Responder Safety

PORTLAND, Ore. – Firecom, the leader in team communication solutions for firefighters and emergency responders, today announced the availability of its new 5000D Series Digital Intercoms, which allow users to connect up to four radios for simulcast interoperability with mutual aid or other agencies to improve operational efficiencies and responder safety. The Digital Intercom is customizable to accommodate new or existing radio and intercom configurations, interfaces up to four additional devices and is 100 percent retrofit compatible with existing Firecom installations.

“Emergency responders have been seeking an interoperability solution to increase responder safety and improve incident response since September 11, 2001,” said Tim O’Brien, Director of Sales at Firecom. “The 5000D Series is designed to preserve existing equipment investments while delivering local interoperability in a highly flexible ‘future-proof’ package that also integrates cell-phone communication and other audio devices.”

When combined with Firecom wireless base stations and headsets, the Digital Intercom enables interference-free communications for up to 40 wireless headset users per system. The unit can also handle up to 10 wired headsets or a mix of wireless and wired headsets. In addition, the Digital Intercom offers a variety of new features that improve control and ease-of-use, including the ability to completely program and adjust radio activity, priority, volume and squelch from the faceplate to meet each customer’s specific operational requirements. Furthermore, the updated intercoms provide 90dB SNR audiophile quality sound and support multiple waterproof remote intercom heads for installations outside the apparatus or for multiple users in a command center.

The Firecom 5000D Series Digital Intercoms are available by the end of August for new and existing customers. They will be demoed at Firecom’s booth #7031 at the Fire Rescue International conference, August 3-4, 2012 in Denver, Colo.
