September 12th fundraising event to benefit the Carlsbad Fire Department Foundation

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) will once again partner with LEGOLAND® California Resort to share Fire Prevention Week safety tips and recognize the efforts of first responders at Firefighter Appreciation Day. Part of a year-round public education partnership between NFPA and LEGOLAND, the fundraising event at the popular San Diego-area theme park features a $35 per person ticket price with a portion of each ticket donated to the Carlsbad Fire Department Foundation (CFDF). Tickets are valid September 12th only and can be purchased only through CFDF.

On Saturday, September 12th, NFPA and the Carlsbad Fire Department will be on hand at LEGOLAND California promoting Fire Prevention Week, which takes place October 4-10, 2015. NFPA and local fire representatives will be discussing this year’s theme – “Hear the Beep, Where You Sleep: Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm.” In addition, Firefighter Appreciation guests can also board a real fire engine and emergency vehicle, try on firefighter gear, race against firefighters at Fun Town Police and Fire Academy and meet NFPA’s official mascot, Sparky the Fire Dog®.

“We are excited about our ongoing partnership with LEGOLAND and the launch of this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign at Firefighter Appreciation Day. We welcome the chance to remind families that working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half – and to recognize the important safety and educational roles that firefighters play in our communities each day,” said Lorraine Carli, NFPA’s vice president of Outreach and Advocacy.

“Safety is a priority for us,” said LEGOLAND California Resort General Manager Peter Ronchetti. “We’re thrilled to team up with NFPA throughout the year, and to actively endorse the launch of Fire Prevention Week while supporting firefighters in our community.”

According to NFPA statistics, three out of every five home fire deaths in the U.S. result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. For more information about smoke alarms and this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, visitwww.firepreventionweek.org.
