NEW YORK — Jose Reyes was shaken up by his Monday car accident on the RFK (Triborough) Bridge, though no one was hurt.
Reyes and Mets trainer Ray Ramirez were sitting in traffic on the bridge around noon when their car, which was being driven by Ramirez, was hit from behind by a fire truck.
Reyes was on his way to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan for a check-up on his partially torn right hamstring tendon.
“It was very scary for the moment, but after we got out of the car, you know, everything was good,” Reyes said before the Mets’ 3-0 loss to the Cardinals. “No damage to the car. The truck hit us very hard, but it’s no problem. Thanks to God, we’re both fine.”
Reyes felt good enough yesterday to hit and field ground balls at Citi Field, but said he still doesn’t have a timetable to come off the disabled list.
Reyes hinted that a return might not happen until around the All-Star break because he has yet to start running. The only running Reyes is doing at the moment is in a swimming pool. He is also walking on a treadmill.
