DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County added $24,000 more to its snowstorm bill this week with repairs for a damaged fire truck.

A Station 15 fire engine was on its way to a serious wreck on I-285 on Jan. 10 when the truck lost control. The truck skidded and crashed into a median near Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, according to an internal report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

No firefighters were injured, but the engine is out of commission and will now cost the county almost $24,000 to repair, Interim Fire Chief Eddie O’Brien said.

An investigation found 2 inches of ice on the highway is to blame. Firefighter Michael Price, who said he was driving about 20 mph when the crash occurred, was cleared of any wrongdoing, according to the report. The report indicated that the crash occurred during the peak of the storm and I-285 had not been treated with any salt or sand.
