STILLWATER, Minn. — The Stillwater Fire Department showed off its new “green” firetruck Wednesday afternoon in the fire station parking lot.
The pumper, built by Rosenbauer General Safety Division, went on display at 4 p.m., said Fire Chief Stuart Glaser.
The new pumper includes an anti-idling Green Star system that allows firefighters to operate equipment powered by the pumper without having to run the engine’s 370-horsepower motor.
The anti-idling system will reduce fuel use and improve the life span of the main engine, Glaser said. It also will reduce emissions and the vehicle’s maintenance costs, he said.
The truck, which cost $378,000, replaces a 25-year-old engine that will be on reserve status, Glaser said.
