SULPHUR, La. — A fire department is shaken up after finding out one of their fire trucks had bullet hole in it.
KPLC reported that the volunteer firefighters with the Houston River (La.) Fire Department conduct daily equipment checks and prior to Saturday evening the dime-sized bullet hole wasn’t there.
“In my 26 years, this is the most scary thing I have ever seen in my life ... is a bullet hole in the side of a fire truck. In the rural, country, North Sulphur, it just shouldn’t happen. It shouldn’t have never happened here,” Chief Dean Lappe said.
Firefighters suspect the shooting may have happened between 5 and 6 p.m. Saturday while answering a call about a fallen utility pole.
“I can train these people. I can train my guys what to do in a structure fire. I can train my guys what to do on the side of the road when we’re taking care of a vehicle wreck. I can train these guys what to do Saturday afternoon at a down power line,” Chief Lappe said. “I can’t train them what to do if someone’s going to be shooting at us.”
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.
