WASHINGTON — A firefighter who was critically injured after being hit by a ladder truck will be sent home Wednesday.
WJLA reported that firefighter Dane Smothers Jr. was struck by the ladder truck when he was getting out of an engine at the scene of a two-alarm fire.
He suffered injuries to his neck, chest and head and has been in the hospital since Aug. 2.
Smothers had been with D.C. Fire and EMS as a probationary firefighter for three months, and Assistant Fire Chief Craig Baker said there was no indication that department protocol was not followed in the fire response.
