OCALA, Fla., -- Chief Fire and Safety, the E-ONE Oklahoma dealer since 1989, and the E-ONE Factory Service Center were recently awarded a contract by the Oklahoma City Fire Department to upgrade six of the department’s aerials to meet 2008 NFPA compliancy standards and to equip the trucks with new cabs and chassis incorporating the latest in safety and ergonomics.
The units being upgraded are two 135' ladders and two 95' platforms, bringing cost savings of $125,000 per truck for the OCFD. Additionally, two 50' telebooms are being changed from rear-mounts to mid-mounts at a cost savings of $75,000-80,000 per truck.
“We sold these trucks to OCFD new in 1991-92 and told the customer when we delivered the trucks that in 15-20 years, when the chassis are worn out, they could bring them back for upgrades and continue to use their existing aerial device with the latest updates,” said Mike Heilman, president of Chief Fire and Safety. “These trucks have more than 150,000 miles on each aerial. The fact that we can make the necessary upgrades and place these aerials back in service further proves E-ONE is a leader in aerial design.”
The units will not only have their aerial devices upgraded to meet NFPA standards, but will also be outfitted with the E-ONE Quest chassis which incorporates many important safety features such as an expansive windshield to provide best-in-class front visibility and G4™, E-ONE’s electronic stability control system.
With roughly 85 percent of OCFD’s fleet currently consisting of E-ONE apparatus, this contract ensures the department can continue to count on E-ONE’s unmatched quality, parts and warranty program at a fraction of the cost of purchasing new apparatus.
