Monroe, N.C.Scott Safety is pleased to announce the introduction of the newest member of the Air-Pak family, the Air-Pak X3 SCBA. The Air-Pak X3 has been designed to meet the stringent NFPA 2013 Edition SCBA Standards, while incorporating a whole new set of advanced SCBA technology to further enhance user safety, wearability, and performance. The Air-Pak X3 continues Scott Safety’s 80-year legacy as the industry-leading, most reliable and durable SCBA on the market, while adding additional emphasis on comfort, weight distribution, hose and wire management, and fireground communications.

Scott Safety has increased the level of comfort of the Air-Pak X3 SCBA by introducing features that better distribute the weight and reduce fatigue. The shoulder straps now have an articulating point of connection at the top of the ergonomically contoured back plate. The pivoting connection enables the straps to move with the wearer, while performing overhead tasks or climbing ladders, reducing fatigue. Lastly, the dual-redundant reducer is mounted at the waist, helping to better distribute the weight across the wearer’s hips.

“Firefighters work in demanding environments and any improvements in comfort help make their job easier,” said John Dinning, NFPA SCBA Product Line Manager. “We conducted extensive research within the firefighting community and incorporated their feedback in our design.”
All electronics are forward-compatible for blue-tooth technology, radio compatibility and Air-Pak SCBA status recognition. The redesigned Air-Pak X3 console features a “sweep” gauge, which is angled for easy viewing and fits well in a gloved hand. The console also features an External Head’s Up Display (HUD) that shows the same light pattern a firefighter sees in his or her facepiece. As the cylinder pressure depletes, the “External HUD” lights indicate remaining pressure. The “External HUD” display now enables the team leader to quickly assess the amount of air remaining for each member of the team and make decisions accordingly.

The new design of the Air-Pak X3 includes improved hose and wire management for a lower profile. All hoses and wires are virtually invisible for less interference and a cleaner fit. The RIC/UAC fitting is tucked away, yet easily accessible with a gloved hand. The product can be ordered with either a CGA or a Snap-Change (quick-connect) cylinder connection; additionally, existing Scott cylinders remain compatible with the appropriate cylinder connection (CGA or Snap-Change).

Scott Safety’s Air-Pak is the most trusted, durable and easy to use SCBA in the fire service, with redundant safety features, a low cost of ownership and firefighter-designed and tested components. And the Scott Safety Air-Pak SCBA is the only SCBA to meet the stringent requirements to be labeled “Made in the USA.” The Air-Pak X3 carries on this tradition, while setting a new bar for SCBA performance and technology.
