Fire Safety Design and Sustainable Buildings Symposium in Chicago November 7-8

October 12, 2012 – The Fire Protection Research Foundation, an affiliate of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), in collaboration with the Chicago and Illinois chapters of the American Institute of Architects, the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings, the Society of Fire Protection Engineers and the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitatwill present Fire Safety Design and Sustainable Buildings: Challenges and Opportunities, November 7 and 8, 2012 at the Courtyard Marriott Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile.

Gordon Gill, Partner, Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture will keynote the 2-day symposium, which will be comprised of three different sessions that address:

  • Sustainable building design features and impact on fire safety
  • Fire safety features and impact on sustainable building design
  • Life cycle sustainability of structures including fire safety features/practices.

As part of the program, architects, engineers, the sustainability community and research institutions will provide perspectives on the challenges and opportunities of integrating fire safety and sustainable design.

The deadline for online registration is November 6. On-site registration will be available during the event.

The symposium has been approved by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) for 10 general continuing education hours.

The Symposium Program Committee invites interested parties to submit one-page abstracts of recent successful case studies that illustrate how good design can innovatively achieve fire safety and sustainability goals. The case studies will be featured on the symposium website and highlighted at the event. Submittals will be accepted and showcased on a continual basis through November 1, 2012.
