Lakeville, MN - ImageTrend, Inc. announced it has successfully completed their latest integration between EMS incident reports and EHR (electronic health records) at the receiving hospital. This integration was performed for the Virginia Beach Department of EMS to help meet their goal of having an entirely electronic system. Incident reports are automatically transmitted to the hospital’s electronic medical record software where they can be viewed by the hospital staff. Having information from field providers, including vital signs, patient treatment and other data immediately available helps provide a more comprehensive view of the patient’s care. This also allows the hospital to better meet The Joint Commission’s accreditation requirements for having an EMS record to accompany each patient received from Virginia Beach EMS.

Using ImageTrend EMS Field Bridge™, EMTs document the incident and generate the report in the field. Once complete, the report is sent through ImageTrend EMS Service Bridge™ where it is stored for reporting and analysis. On a scheduled basis, these incident reports are converted to an HL7 format which can be read by the EHR software. The patient care record ID number from the transporting ambulance is also stored to allow the hospital to compare records with the original EMS report if needed, and all data are sent electronically through a secure connection.
