Notch the eaves to prevent ladder slips

Tips

By Mark van der Feyst

When raising a ground ladder against a residential structure, the eaves of the structure present a slipping hazard. The ladder can easily slide along the eaves if it is not secured enough on the ground. This can be the case when the ladder is resting on concrete, asphalt or similar hard surface as opposed to a grassy surface.

A way to reduce the ladder tip from slipping is dent the eaves with the ladder. This can be done when the ladder is being raised and placed against the building. The two dents will provide a resting place for the ladder beams.
