Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta will join executives from Taylor & Taylor Associates, Inc. and the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company tomorrow to announce a $40,000 grant awarded to the FDNY High School – a groundbreaking initiative that provides students with a solid educational background while also preparing them for a career as a first responder.
The grant will help to fund the purchase of state-of-the-art fitness equipment for students considering a career in the emergency response field. Also included in the grant package is a message board that will help to recruit new students. In 2006, Taylor & Taylor and the Fireman’s Fund donated a $50,000 grant for equipment used in fire and medical care training activities.
Since 2004, the FDNY High School — located in the East New York section of Brooklyn — has served hundreds of students using a unique curriculum focused on the academic, physical and ethical challenges within the emergency response field. The program allows students the opportunity to earn a New York State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification along with their high school diploma, while enjoying a variety of educational and career paths to choose from — including the FDNY.
