Jones and Bartlett Expands with International Partnerships

August 2, 2007, SUDBURY, MA - Jones and Bartlett Publishers (J&B) is one of the fastest growing educational publishers in the United States, and now that growth is exploding internationally. New partnerships with dozens of international organizations including the British Paramedic Association, Toronto Emergency Medical Services, the British Association of Chief Police Officers, Association for Health Research and Development in Latin America and the governments of China and Portugal are fueling that growth.

Creating strategic partnerships with dozens of prestigious and influential national organizations has long been a tradition for J&B. These relationships have helped J&B become a respected leader in educational publishing. J&B publishes text, professional, reference, and online materials, and is leading the way in the fields of healthcare, emergency services and public safety, life and physical sciences, and computer science. By expanding our existing partnerships and securing new relationships in international markets, J&B is implementing this successful model worldwide. J&B has broadened its product offerings to include numerous custom publications for overseas markets.

“The rapid growth of our international publishing operation is quickly proving there are no cultural, political, or geographic barriers that our world class content and esteemed authors can’t overcome,” remarked Clayton Jones, CEO of Jones and Bartlett Publishers. “Our reputation as an innovative and creative publisher has opened the door to these new opportunities.”

Among new international initiatives are three new programs geared toward emergency response personnel, which are the result of a new partnership with the British Paramedic Association (BPA). The British Paramedic Association (College of Paramedics) exists to provide support for ambulance professionals throughout the United Kingdom. In keeping with its mission, the BPA has authored a customized version of two of J&B’s top selling programs: Nancy Caroline’s Emergency Care in the Streets and First Aid, CPR, and AED Standard.

A third program, developed in conjunction with the BPA and the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), is also available. ACPO leads and coordinates the direction and development of the police service in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. ACPO is using J&B’s new custom publication for all First Aid, CPR, and AED training.

First Aid, CPR, and AED has proved to be a popular resource internationally, with another custom version of the book published in partnership with Toronto Emergency Medical Services. Toronto EMS is using the J&B materials to train over 15,000 emergency response and public service professionals throughout Ontario.

In other public safety news, the Portuguese government has recently chosen J&B’s best selling First Responder program to train members of their military in vital, lifesaving skills.

J&B is also working with the Association for Health Research and Development and Editorial Médica AWWE (ACINDES) to produce Spanish-language editions of First Aid, CPR, and AED, Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals, and APLS: The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Resource. ACINDES is one of Latin America’s fastest growing medical publishers.

In addition, J&B is reaching out to new and exciting markets in Asia. Recently, the Pediatric First Aid for Caregivers and Teachers (PedFACTs) course found an audience in Shanghai, China. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the author of the PedFACTs program, has met with pediatricians from Shanghai to implement a pediatric first aid pilot program. This program will target childcare providers and kindergarten teachers using a Chinese language edition PedFACTs. The training starts at the end of July, when the AAP will send three US pediatricians to Shanghai for the first round of instruction. This exciting program has the potential to impact the first aid needs of 280,000 children in Shanghai.

Our transition to international partnerships and custom publications is a natural progression, building off our experience customizing products for domestic groups. Ranging from state-specific resources such as the Florida Regional Common EMS Protocols to Combat Medic Field Reference published for the US Army, J&B has a wealth of resources specifically designed for both US and international organizations.
