Order Equips First Responders in Hollywood Entertainment Hub with Tools to Protect Community from Bioterrorism Attack
Los Angeles--(Business Wire)--Universal Detection Technology (www.udetection.com) (OTCBB: UNDT), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats, and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, reported today that it has received a purchase order from the City of Burbank Fire Department for its bioterrorism detection equipment. The purchase order includes orders for UNDT’s 5-agent detection kits.
The City of Burbank, located north of downtown Los Angeles, has a population of 105,000 and is home to several major Hollywood studios such as ABC, NBC, Nickelodeon, The Walt Disney Company, and Warner Bros. The Bob Hope Airport, which services 4.9 million travelers per year, is also located in the City of Burbank.
The order was placed in the wake of independent congressional report admonishing the U.S. government for failing to respond to the growing, serious threat of bioterrorism.
The report, issued in January by the bipartisan Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, gave the government a “F” letter grade for failure to “enhance the nation’s capabilities for rapid response to prevent biological attacks from inflicting mass casualties.”
“The order from the Burbank Fire Department and the recent order from the U.S. Army indicate the growing awareness of the threat of bioterrorism within the first responder community,” said Jacques Tizabi, CEO of Universal Detection Technology. “Our goal is to continue to supply first responders and the military with the most advanced, high-performance bioagent detection equipment available in the market,” continued Tizabi.
