Winemaking Fireman Honors America’s Fire Fighters

“The Tillerman” and “Third Alarm” Wines offered to Firefighters at Substantial Discount...because “They’ve earned it”

Santa Rosa, Calif.- Hook & Ladder Vineyards and Winery has released a collection of estate wines created as a tribute to America’s firefighters. The 2005 Hook and Ladder “The Tillerman” Red and White wines and the “Third Alarm” Reserve Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon were created by Hook & Ladder founder Cecil De Loach, who served as a San Francisco fireman for sixteen years. The winery offers substantial discounts to firefighters nationwide, active or retired.

A Career Devoted to Firefighting

De Loach began his career as a San Francisco fireman in 1966. During his sixteen-year career, he was an H2 Fireman and Tillerman at firehouses such as 10-Truck and 16-Truck. He has deep roots in the Fire Department, and has created these wines as a salute to firefighters, active and retired, who protect our communities. He retired from the Department in 1982 to pursue his other love, winemaking, but never lost sight of his history in the San Francisco Fire Department.

Wines that Honor Firefighters

Hook & Ladder’s “The Tillerman” (both Red and White) and “Third Alarm” Reserve wines (both Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon) are produced from grapes grown on Hook & Ladder’s extensive Russian River Valley estate vineyards in Sonoma County. “The Tillerman” Red and White are blends of different grapes that deliver unique and distinctive flavors. The “Third Alarm” Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon are regarded as the finest wines the winery offers. Hook & Ladder offers to firefighters, active or retired, at a 20 percent discount on any wines purchased from the winery. According to De Loach, “They’ve earned it....and more.”

The founding of Hook & Ladder Winery in 2004 is the culmination of De Loach’s thirty-plus years of winemaking in Sonoma County.
