Video: Firefighters rescue puppy from incinerator pit

CINCINNATI — Firefighters rescued a six-week-old puppy from an abandoned incinerator Thursday morning.

WLWT reported that crews were called to the Millcreek Sanitation Plant after workers discovered a puppy at the bottom of a 40-foot-deep incinerator pit.

The puppy was trapped and hiding under some pallets at the bottom of the pit, according to the report.

A firefighter and an animal control worker were put in harnesses and lowered into the pit, where they were able to retrieve the dog.

The dog, which firefighters named “Smokey,” was later taken to a local SPCA to be checked out, according to the report.
