BANGOR, Maine — A fire department will replace four of its five thermal imaging cameras thanks to a donation from Stephen and Tabitha King.

Bangor Daily News reported that the donation, from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, will allow firefighters to see through heavy smoke and identify hotspots.

“The Kings are kind people who want to give back to the community and we are appreciative of what they do,” Bangor Fire Chief Tom Higgins said.

In 2015, the Bangor Fire Department received about $20,000 from the Kings to purchase washer-dryer equipment to remove harmful substances from firefighters’ turnout gear.

The cameras will be purchased and put in use within the next 60 days.
