OREM, Utah- One of the two fires in Utah County has been contained, while firefighters continue to battle the other.
Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Ali Knutson says, so far, the Pelican Point fire has scorched just over 25-hundred acres. She says it’s 35 percent contained, and fire crews expect full containment by tonight.
Knutson says the fire, likely human-caused, started on Wednesday night, just west of Redwood Road and south of Saratoga Springs.
Knutson says, right now, there are no structures immediately threatened. However, county officials have shut down a stretch of Highway 68. It’s closed from ten miles south of the Highway 73 and 68 junction to Soldiers Pass. She says, it’s expected to reopen at nine o’clock tonight.
Knutsen says the Government Creek fire was contained last night. She says that fire was sparked by lightning on Tuesday night near the town of Elberta.
