Md. fire department gets grant for thermal imaging camera

The cameras use infrared technology to help firefighters locate victims, pinpoint fires and recognize structural dangers

GLEN BURNIE, Md. — A volunteer fire department received a $6,400 grant Wednesday to be used to purchase a thermal imaging camera.

The Baltimore Sun reported that the Orchard Beach Volunteer Fire Department got a check from the Exelon Energy Co. for a thermal imaging camera to allow firefighters to see through smoke and darkness.

The cameras use infrared technology to help firefighters locate victims, pinpoint fires and recognize structural dangers, according to the report.
