Nye County Search & Rescue does 2ND off-road rescue in as many days!

By: Mike Brady

TONOPAH, NV - The picture at right is of a motor vehicle accident victim, being loaded into an Esmeralda County ambulance from Goldfield, NV. The MVA occurred at 0800 hours on March 1, 2010. The dispatch location was just off highway 95, seven miles south of Tonopah, in Esmeralda County. As the passenger car came to a rest approximately one quarter mile off the paved road, ambulance personnel could not get to it without risk of getting the EMS unit stuck in desert sand. As such, the Nye County Search & Rescue unit, plus Tonopah and Esmeralda Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to assist at this accident scene.

Operated by Tonopah VFD, a 4X4 Kawasaki 610 Mule utility vehicle towed Nye County SAR unit’s All Terrain Res-Q off-road patient transport trailer through brush, boulders and sand washes before reaching the wrecked vehicle. After packaging by Nye County SAR EMTs, the patient was safely transported back to the highway where an ambulance from Goldfield was waiting. Upon transfer to the ambulance stretcher, the patient was transported to Nye Regional Medical Center in Tonopah for treatment of her injuries.

NOTE: This was Nye County Search & Rescue / Tonopah VFD’s third off-road rescue mission with their All Terrain Res-Q trailer since placing it in service in July of 2009; all with outstanding results.

Established in 1964, Nye County Search and Rescue is located in Tonopah, Nevada.
