PATERSON, N.J. — Firefighters pulled two teenagers from the frigid waters of the Passaic River Tuesday afternoon after the pair fell through the ice, Deputy Chief William Henderson said.
A member of the public arrived at fire headquarters on McBride Avenue around 3 p.m. and banged on the door, telling firefighters he had just seen the two youths enter the water nearby, Henderson said.
Chief Brian Rathbone, Deputy Chief Brian McDermott, Capt. Mike Walker and Firefighter Wesley Mann were among the first on scene, spotting the heads of the victims just above water level about 30 feet from shore and tossing them a ring buoy attached to a length of rope.
