Grass fires keep firefighters busy in Woodlands, Texas

Firefighters called to fight a grass and woods fire found about one-half acre burning among various parts of an area in the 2200 block of Millpark Drive. The fire was put out with about 300 gallons of water from a tanker truck, according to The Woodlands Fire Department reports released last week.

In other incidents, a grass and woods fire in the 11600 block of Grogan’s Mill Road also burned grass over about one-half acre, and a smoldering grass fire near a bike path in the 4800 block of Research Forest Drive was fully extinguished by firefighters, according to fire department reports.

Fan unit causes building evacuation

An alarm sent firefighters scrambling after smoke began pouring from an air vent in a break room inside a building at the North Harris Montgomery Community College campus in the 4800 block of Research Forest Drive.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found the building evacuated and traced the problem to a malfunctioning blower inside the central air conditioning unit, according to fire department reports.

Natural gas leak repaired by crews

Hazardous materials crews stood by while utilities officials repaired a 6-inch natural gas pipe ruptured by construction crews in the 100 block of Star Ridge Circle, according to fire department reports.

Controlled burn causes alarm

Firefighters investigating reports of heavy smoke in the Windvale subdivision near the intersection of East Windvale Circle and Deepdale Drive noticed a heavy plume coming from behind the neighborhood.

The source of the smoke was determined to be a controlled burn conducted by a construction company clearing land that was outside The Woodlands, according to fire department reports.

Stove fire caused by misplaced tray

Firefighters responding to reports of a small fire in the 100 block of Dovetail Place arrived to find a small stove fire ignited when the food tray of a highchair had been accidentally placed on top of a burner, causing the tray to melt. Firefighters helped clear the scorched material and remove smoke from the kitchen, according to reports.

Gasoline spill mopped up

Fire crews mopped up a small amount of gas spilled in the 6600 block of Woodlands Parkway, then washed down the surrounding area, according to fire department reports.

Electrical short shuts down power

Firefighters responding to a potential fire hazard at a dry cleaning business in the 8000 block of Research Forest Drive arrived to find an electrical short and shut down power while the problem was fixed, according to fire department reports.

Trash fire doused near restaurant

Firefighters put out a fire burning in a commercial trash bin outside a restaurant in the 3000 block of College Park Drive that caused an estimated $100 worth of damage, according to fire department reports.
