LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today added $50,000 to the state’s $100,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of whoever set the Station Fire.
Investigators announced Thursday that they determined that the fire was deliberately set, based on evidence of an accelerant found at the point of origin.
Two firefighters died when their truck plunged off a mountain road, and prosecutors could decide to seek homicide charges against the fire starter.
The blaze, which has scorched 160,357 acres, or about 250-square miles, since it broke out Aug. 26, was 60 percent contained today, with full containment projected for Sept. 15.
Supervisor Michael Antonovich suggested adding to the reward, which was unanimously approved. On Friday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced a $100,000 reward for tips that lead to a conviction.
Los Angeles County fire Capt. Tedmund “Ted” Hall, 47, of San Bernardino County, and firefighter Specialist Arnaldo “Arnie” Quinones, 35, of Palmdale, died about 2:30 p.m. Aug. 30 when the vehicle they were in went off a road south of Acton, near Mount Gleason, and overturned, plunging more than 800 feet.
