3 FFs hurt when N.J. fire truck slams into storefront after crash with car, dump truck

The three East Orange Fire Department members, a truck driver and the motorist suffered apparently minor injuries

EAST ORANGE, N.J. — Five people were hurt Tuesday in a crash involving a dump truck, a car and a fire truck that struck a building, officials said.

The wreck happened around 11:45 a.m. in East Orange, near Halsted and Main Streets, according to city spokeswoman Connie Jackson. Three firefighters, the dump truck driver and a motorist suffered apparently minor injuries in the crash and were taken to University Hospital in Newark.

The East Orange Fire Department truck crashed into the front of the Olive May natural food store on Main Street, causing minor damage to the store’s exterior facing Halsted Street, the city spokeswoman said. The store was temporarily closed for cleanup.

Authorities were investigating what caused the crash. No other injuries were reported.
