CHINA GROVE, N.C. — Three North Carolina firefighters were injured Friday when their fire engine overturned.
The three China Grove firefighters were responding to an emergency call when the driver lost control of the engine, according to the Salisbury Post. The apparatus rolled over, and the firefighters, who were wearing seatbelts, were able to exit on their own. Officials said the injuries to the firefighters were not life-threatening.
Authorities believe the firefighters were responding to another vehicle crash that was caused by wet road conditions when the rollover occurred. However, officials could not say for sure whether wet road conditions had caused the apparatus to overturn.
The China Grove Fire Department wrote on Facebook that the firefighters were all released from the hospital Friday afternoon and “are only a little shaken and sore.” The department thanked other departments in the county for assisting in bringing some equipment back to the station.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. Workers spent hours turning the apparatus upright and towing it from the scene.
