LINDEN, N.J. — Three Linden firefighters were injured Tuesday when their fire truck was struck by a tractor-trailer Tuesday while responding to a call on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The fire engine was attempting to turn from the Turnpike onto the Wood Avenue emergency access road when the tractor-trailer hit the truck around 9:10 a.m, Linden police said.

One firefighter had to be cut out of the truck with emergency equipment. All were brought to University Hospital in Newark with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to police. The tractor-trailer driver was not hurt.

The firefighters were responding to a motor vehicle crash near milepost 99.2 on the northbound New Jersey Turnpike, police Lt. Christopher Guenther said in an email.

Details about that crash were not immediately available from State Police. The crash involving the fire engine is also under investigation by State Police.
