N.C. FFs injured in fire engine crash, rollover

Four Thomasville firefighters were injured when their fire engine was struck buy an SUV and overturned

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A Thomasville fire truck on its way to an accident on Interstate 85 was struck by another vehicle and overturned on Sunday, causing minor injuries to firefighters, according to law enforcement

When the fire truck, which was traveling south on Baptist Children’s Home Road, approached the intersection of West Holly Hill Road Extension about 1:10 p.m. it was struck in the right passenger area by a 2013 GMC Terrain SUV traveling West. The fire truck overturned and came to rest at Lake Road.

Both vehicles were traveling about 35 miles per hour. The fire truck was operating its lights and siren.

One firefighter and the driver of the GMC were taken to Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center with minor injuries.

Two other firefighters were also taken to the hospital by Thomasville Fire Department personnel for precautionary evaluations.

Additional emergency personnel went to the initial traffic accident on I-85 near Fisher Ferry Road, where one person was taken to a local hospital. The accident is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The intersection of Baptist Children’s Home Road and Lake Road was closed until approximately 4 p.m.

The driver of the GMC was not charged, although police continue to investigate the incident.
